Initially, Jane took up air-rifle shooting as a casual sport. She felt that the journey was tough with many setbacks and many days would be filled with stress and negative thoughts which made her feel overwhelmed but along the way, she eventually fell in love with the sport that her aunt introduced her to. As air rifle shooting is about mental stability and concentration, she trains 1 day a week.
However, not every hobby is perfect, it can get overwhelming at times. “Personally, I train as a way to destress, but it can be stressful (when it is too much to handle). There are days where I break down and cry in the range (as) I’m not progressing like how I (usually) do.”
Despite these challenges and setbacks, she realized that a training session does not define how an athlete performs. At first, she was upset when she entered competitions as she was only placed second and third but never first. She learnt to take it in her stride and learn from her defeats. This change in mindset, enabled her to constantly strive to improve and look forward to upcoming competitions.
Jane chose to pursue air-rifle shooting over her CCA (touch rugby) because it is her passion. “I will never choose anything over air-rifle shooting, as I really love shooting with all my heart.”
With consistent training and perseverance to push through over the years,
Guess what?
She emerged victorious as Champion in Singapore cup 2023, 10m Air Rifle women.
