The End of a Journey

The PFP School of Design and Media came together to showcase our exceptional semester works in a remarkable exhibition titled “City of Fantasia.” This exhibition not only featured our outstanding triptychs, captivating self-portraits, and imaginative animal structures but also unveiled our awe-inspiring combined design work, representing the utopian and dystopian aspects of the cities of work, school, and community. As a fellow student and participant in this exhibition, I was filled with a mix of amazement, admiration, and a bittersweet realisation that this marked the end of our PFP journey.

The Combined Design Work: City of Fantasia

The highlight of the exhibition was undoubtedly the combined design work known as the “City of Fantasia.” Inspired by the invigorating music video of “Cantaloop” by US3 and the enchanting Disney movie Fantasia, the students created a visual spectacle that captivated all who visited the exhibition. The city was divided into three distinct aspects: work, school, and community, each representing a unique facet of our lives.

Within the City of Fantasia, the utopian and dystopian elements were skillfully interwoven. The students’ artistic interpretations brought to life the contrasting visions of a harmonious and thriving society, as well as the potential dangers and challenges that lie beneath the surface. This duality provided a thought-provoking experience, prompting viewers to reflect on the complexities of our modern world.

The Applied Arts Semester Works:

Alongside the awe-inspiring City of Fantasia, the exhibition showcased the students’ individual semester works. The triptychs, consisting of three interconnected artworks, displayed the students’ versatility and command of various artistic techniques. Each triptych conveyed a unique narrative, evoking emotions and inviting viewers to explore the artist’s perspective.

The self-portraits exhibited at the event were personal and introspective. Each student portrayed themselves through their own artistic lens, capturing their individuality, struggles, and aspirations. The diversity of styles and approaches showcased the depth of talent within our class.

The animal structures were a testament to the students’ creativity and craftsmanship. From whimsical creatures to realistic renditions, each sculpture demonstrated the students’ ability to transform ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art. These animal structures not only celebrated the beauty and diversity of the animal kingdom but also highlighted our class’s collective imagination and technical skills.

Reflections on the Exhibition and the End of PFP

As I walked through the exhibition, I was struck by the unity and harmony that emerged from the combination of diverse works. Despite our different artistic styles and approaches, our creations complemented and elevated one another, forming a cohesive and impactful display. Witnessing this collaboration was both humbling and inspiring, as it showcased the collective strength and talent of both our classes.

However, amidst the excitement and admiration, there was also a tinge of sadness. The exhibition marked the end of our PFP journey, signifying the end of an era. As I gazed at the art pieces, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief that our projects were complete, but also a pang of nostalgia for the experiences, growth, and friendships we had formed during these past 11 months.
