Me and my beef with a Banana
Some art exhibitions can be a bit much. Now I’m not disrespecting the people like Leonardo Da Vinci or Picasso, I am however vexed by the person who taped a banana on a canvas. For some, it may be art, but I personally feel that the student from the Seoul National University who ate the fruit did us all a huge favor. Anyways I’m getting sidetracked, I was given the idea to go to the School of Design and Media’s art exhibition to write an article about it, so here we are.
Molded paper
Stepping into the block in which the event was held, I was in awe with how much artwork could be displayed in 2 classrooms. Unlike that banana on the wall, these were actual art pieces sketched out using graphite with pieces of paper being shaped and molded into beautiful aesthetically pleasing designs. The theme for the exhibition was Chinese zodiac signs and star signs. The students used paper and other materials to create an artwork which represents their chosen Zodiac or star sign – some of which were even interactive such as pullable tabs.
The exhibition and the artworks showcased every single student’s unique style of artwork through pieces of paper and graphite. Be it a lion or some stars in the sky, the students managed to mold an idea into an amazing piece of work uniquely theirs, unlike a banana taped to a canvas. So maybe next time if you somehow end up in an art exhibition made by some students or you were invited just like me, just take the chance to explore and allow yourself to be filled with awe.
