Singing often starts from young, around Primary 6/Secondary 1 and for Park Yoong-sung, also known as Lea, her journey was no different. She started singing in Primary 6 and also started learning instruments, mainly guitar, around the same time (Fun Fact: her first performance was when she was in P6, during National Day! Interesting, huh?).

Throughout secondary school, she continued practising music (and messing up some performances), which eventually led to Nanyang Polytechnic where she now attends the School of Design and Media, joined the Crew Studio CCA and is currently the vocalist of a band

Xavier Wee Tian Le had a similar start on his journey. He started in Secondary 1, joined his school’s Choir and performed in front of his school many times. After he graduated, his journey would continue in Nanyang Poly where he now attends the School of Information Technology and joined the Voice Ensemble CCA, who are known as NYP’s Choir.

For Jaslyn Lee Zuo Ling, her journey was also very similar as well. She started in Secondary 1, but it was more of a hobby that lived at home and on YouTube, where she releases covers of various songs. After graduation, she went on to attend the School of Design and Media at NYP, joined the Soundcard CCA and continues to release covers.

Now, I have a little exercise for the reader. Guess why I just wrote a synopsis of these 3 random people’s singing journeys?

They all intertwine at 1 singular point.

The Lunchtime Concert ‘23!

It was held at the Library and T-Junction, from 11 July to 14 July and according to the aforementioned singers, it was a very fun albeit tiring experience.

Before the performance

According to Xavier, there was a general feeling of nervousness that many members, including the committee, had before they went up. He felt that this was the normal pre-performance nerves.

Lea said that she was “not thinking anything” because she was just enjoying the band that was playing before her.

(This is an excerpt from the interview, where Lea explains what she was doing before she sang.)

For Jaslyn, she was mainly just playing air hockey with some of her friends. Apparently, it was very fun.

Experience of singing on “stage.”

Lea said that she felt that it was a “unique experience” as she was able to hype up the audience and get energy from them, compared to singing in secondary school, where it was more of “sit down and keep quiet” from the audience (a.k.a. students).

For Xavier, he was (unfortunately) standing right in front of 1 of the microphones, which meant that he (unfortunately) would be the loudest from the mic, hence he (unfortunately) had to try his best to make as few mistakes as possible.

After the performance

Jaslyn realized that she was stiff and couldn’t “loosen up” for the performance.

(This is an excerpt from the interview, where Jaslyn explains why she felt stiff while performing. )

A SIT student, Xavier, currently in Voice Ensemble (VE), felt that there were many mistakes in his performance after it was done, which was a thought echoed by Lea.

(This is an excerpt from the interview, where Xavier explains what he felt after his performance and why.)

“I was thinking about which parts I should be better at.” – Lea

For Jaslyn, her thoughts were a little less…something.

(This is an excerpt from the interview, where Jaslyn explains her thoughts after her performance.)

After-effects of the performance

Obviously, after singing for a while (15 minutes in Lea’s case), there were some side effects.

(This is an excerpt from the interview, where Lea explains what she felt after her performance.)

Let’s hope she got a very nice lunch.
